12/28/98 - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY I: Axilla I, Stash, Farmhouse, Taste*, [acoustic mini stage] Sleep, Albequerque, Driver [end acoustic setup] Tube, Golgi Apparatus, Good Times, Bad Times II: Carini -> Jam -> Wolfman's Brother -> Jam, Birds of a Feather, When the Circus Comes, The Mighty Quinn#, David Bowie^ E: Been Caught Stealin' (with tramps) Stage setup had flowers, four huge pillars, and green worms filled with people. There were 3 people in slug outfits at the beginning of set 2 who very slowly squirmed around to the front of the stage, then all around, dancing a little bit all the time, especially during Birds. The "pillars" noted looked like weird nothings, then during the encore opened up and were trees (as depicted on the holiday tour shirts). Then next two nights there were more traditional dancers mostly staying in the aisles on the floor, but occasionally during set two making their way on to the stage. Thanks to Andy Gadiel for the call, and Markmez for the extra info! * Peter King says "Trey definitely did a little Daves Energyguide licking" during the Taste jam. # Brian Schrader said they played the Mighty Quinn because a girl in the 5th row in front of Page held up a sign with "The Mighty Quinn" all night. ^ Rev. Anthony Hecht noticed 'The Godfather' theme tease in the Bowie intro (possibly teasing THE Digital Delay Loop jam, a la 12/29/94, as well?) and Gainer knew the setbreak album was Marc Ribot y Los Cubanos Postizos and they played some of Los Lobos' "Kiko" during the 51 minute setbreak See Adam Foley's 12/28 pics here
