I've been an avid Phish Head since I was in 5th grade. Phish is the best band as far as improv is concerned that I've seen since the Allmans. I've seen Phish about 11 times and everytime was worth while.

TOUR HEAD
To all the angry or confused heads out there just chill, smoke some dank ass nuggs, talk about shows, and most importantly be nice. No one can figure out the scene or why people do certain things but don't just go to the show love others as you would want others to love you and meet some cool people because there is going to be a shit load of shows to go to some day so just have fun, live life to the fullest, read a book, and eat the fungus Peace to all my brothers and sisters i will see you at the show TOODLES

REBA SINK A BOULDER IN THE WATER. reba tied a cable to a tree. rEBA STUCK IN A LIPSTICK PURFUME blah blah blah blah blah. Phish is the shit. I love Phish. There is not enough good extacy at the shows that people are having to do insane doses to feel the tingaly tingles. I love Steve on G-crew. I cant wait till we all meet again

I was at the show in Madison, Wisconsin at the Kohl Center and I thought you guys were awesome. After we were shroomin I barely knew where I was. Then as we toked up, I dropped all our alcohol and I said, "shit, well, at least Phish is jammin out." You guys were amazing all night long. I especially enjoyed the second set where your jams were as long as my hit I took of my 5 foot bong. You guys rule.

Get political, people. Organize. Let's get our little disfunctional scene together and make a difference in the world. Ever think we're playing right into the evil powers of the world's hands by infighting, zoning out, and only trying to maximize our personal buzz? The youth used to be politically engaged with society's problems, and carrying on a spirited, intelligent debate about how to cope. Anyone with me on this? Then keep reading the paper, bringing up and discussing serious issues when you're hanging with friends, and feel the potential when you're in a large group of relatively like-minded folk, like at shows. There's a value to just having fun, no doubt about it, but all play and no work makes our generation a fucking flop man...

I think if you are going to enjoy phish, then why does it matter if you are young, old, rich, poor, go to collage, or high school, want to see the scene, or just the music, or anything else i left out? you should be nice to people reguardless of anything like that-even if they don't like phish. didnt you mother always tell you to treat others the way YOU want to be treated?!?!

if i knew that the net would lead to so much crap being written in here, i never would of gotten it. im so glad that there was nothing like this when the dead were playing, because i had some of the best times of my life at dead shows, and if i was to read something like whats on this review page about the dead, i think i would of been totally bumbed out. Im not going to lecture or tell anyone the supposed "proper" way to act at a show, but what i would like to happen is for everyone who goes to a concert, wether its a phish show or a fucking barbara sreisand concert, just have respect for the people around you. for the most part when i was at providence last month i had a great time and the shows were very good. what probably did it for me was that i was so psyched that i didn't even realize what was going on besides what was on the stage. it might be because i had the KB and i was puffin up the whole section but for whatever reason it may be, i was focused on one thing.....PHISH!!! oh and about Panic, i love em, it took a while to get into them but as soon as i heard enough shows i was hooked. so for anyone who is dissin the spread then just write me and ill trade you for some panic shows that will make you go, wow , these guys are pretty good. but if you don't like them thats cool, just don't write about. oh one more thing, ive never been to a streisand concert.

I recently went to my first Ween concert! They played two nights ago (5/9/98) at the Newport in Columbus, OH. Although I am not very familiar with their music, I loved the show. They lack the professionalism of some of the other bands (i.e. Phish), but it makes for a very entertaining concert. The members were definately having a good time -- they finished off a bottle of Jack Daniels over the night. I guess I would've too considering the small percentage of Columbus locals that decided to attend. Many of the younger Ween "fans" decided it was cool to jump on the stage and be seen by the entire room, only to stage dive into the audience. Ween seemed a bit annoyed by this spectacle. However, one girl decided to jump up and take her shirt off, which by the way is legal in Columbus. After the numerous stage divers, the band mentioned that they were playing through the old Grateful Dead sound system (GD sold their old system to the Newport in the 70's) They then stated they were going to try something, and weren't sure how it would turn out. They played Stella Blue. Guess what? It didn't suck. Actually, it sounded really good, with very accurate rythym and lead guitar playing. After the song, one member said "We probably just made a lot of people very happy, and a lot of people very pissed off." But at least it stopped the stage divers. After that, they continued playing their original songs. Their one long set lasted for about 2 hrs, 45 min with a 20 minute encore. They closed the show with a rockin' "Hot for Teacher" -- Van Halen cover. This was the highlight of the night for me, David Lee Roth eat your heart out. Overall, Ween shows have something for everyone: hard rockin' Led Zepplin/Black Sabbath soundin' songs; funky Curtis Mayfield style songs; irish drinkin' songs; percussion based instrumentals, etc. There is no such thing as Ween falling into a rut -- every song is fresh and different. Oh yeah, they didn't play Roses are Free. Too bad. So if you live in Boulder, CO don't miss their last show of the tour at the Fox this week. You'll be surprised, I was.
See you in Portland for the beginning of a crazy summer.

Do this.
Bring 3-7 of your favourite phriends to a sho. Make your own scene. Get into the music. See faces of those who are on the same vibe you are.
And if there are people there who aren't, well, you ever gone looking for your car keys, walking all over the house, and they're right there in your hand, but you can't see or hear them?
Peace.

4.3.98- great opening, and great close. one of the most exciting shows i've seen.
4.4.98- incredible hood encore.
4.5.98- solid throughout. disappointed with encore, but who can complain about 3 nights of surprise phish.

You all can take your silly little Phish tour this summer. I, on the other hand, will be on the only tour that matters, The Spice Girls 1998 US Summer tour.
I am doing the whole tour in my 1967 VW microbus. If you wanna hook up, you can find me trolling the parking lot before each show selling doses and goo-balls and searching out that miracle ticket.
Or, just ask some of the other Spiceheads, everybody knows Phishy Spice!

Fabulous shit! Saw the two Providence shows and thought they were fantastic. If the second set first night and first set second night were one show I think people would die left and right due to complete and utter amazement and/or exhaustion. Random thought: Does anyone actually want to trade shows anymore? I'm asking because the last five times I have tried to set up a trade and the people took a huge shit on me by never responding back. LOOK FOLKS I'VE GOT SOME GOOD TAPES(around 350 hours at least). Anyway, no worries, I love all of you. Oh, by the way, QUIT PUTTING WIDESPREAD SHIT IN HERE-- WE'RE NOT IMPRESSED. I saw the free show in Athens and guess what? I'd rather pay thirty bucks for ONE set of Phish than see those guys again. They are alright but pahlease!!! They just don't jam like you all know who. Anyway, please go to spreadnet if that's what you are interested in.

4/3 nassau
my first show since albany. first set was incredible. mike's opener. very cool weekapaug with weird crosseyed teases. dog stole things was alright, cool lyrics. reba was epic. my first one so i almost lost my shit when they started the whistle jam. couldn't stop laughing, then my soul. great closer, didn't start liking this one till tonite. second set was awesome. never even heard roses are free so i thought it was cool. awesome funk jam into piper! oh my god. thought they reached the high point in the night with this one unitl loving cup. anyone there will remember the guy running across stage in perfect time with loving cup, coming out of its jam (ohhhh what a beautiful buzzz!) then ANTELOPE!!! so funny. carini's gonna get you. raging glowstick war, and a raging jam. the best closer i've seen in a lot of shows. then i thought they might do a short encore, but carini came on, kind of expected that one into halley's. my buddies wanted that one all night and they got it. tweezer reprise a fitting end to an epic show.

4/2 Nassau- Stash- That jam fuckin' rocked!!! It was different, a good change. Listen to the tapes every day, great show. I'm a born again Phish head, before the Garden 12/97 shows it was 2 1/2 years since I saw the boys play. Kinda got out of phish when hoist came out. Going to shows became a pain in the ass ( like dead shows were). Used to get tix for free in the parking lots, not any more. But im back and loving it. Even used phish lyrics as part of one of my lessons to students my English class. Hope I see them over the summer!!!

If you missed 4/18 in Athens, and the HOB run in Myrtle Beach, then you guys are really missing out. This shows, especially the HOB run was incredible. Imagine, 3 nights in a row with about 2000 other folks, that's right 2000!!! All I got to say in INTIMATE!!!. The best thing around currently for all I'm concerned. My lips are sealed! HE-HE!!

DEEP THOUGHTS....
aFTER THE FIRST NIGHT OF NASSEAU, AND THE SECOND SNEAKIN' SALLY IN THE LAST THREE SHOES, I TOLD A FREIND THAT I COULD HEAR IT EVERY NIGHT AND BE HAPPY. THAT MAY NOT BE EXACTLY TRUE, BUT I DO LOVE IT. AS A SONG, IT ADDS A MORE STRUCTURE TO THE FUNK THEME GOIN' ON, WHILE NOT COMPROMISING THAT FEEL A BIT. OH YEAH...I FELL THE SAME WAY ABOUT CAREENIE (?)(WITHOUT THE FUNK). DID NOT EXPECT TO HEAR IT AT THE GARDEN, OR IN PROVIDENCE. THAT TUNE ROCKS THE F*@#IN' HOUSE DOWN. pHISH MEETS LED ZEPPELIN OR SOMETHING... ANYWAY, THOSE ARE MY DEEP THOUGHTS.
P.S. I ALSO HAD A DEEP THOUGHT ABOUT BEER TODAY.......MMMMMMMMMMM BEER.

i hadn't been able to catch a show since the Went, so when i heard about the suprise spring tour, i knew i couldn't let myself miss it. i came up from florida just to see the 2 nassau shows and let me tell you, it was worth it. for me, at least, the show started off on a great note. we came early just to chill before the show and i had a great time in the lot. i ended up helping a friend pass out those MMW/Scofield tapes that everyone was walking around with. did everyone get their **FREE MUSIC**? i hope so, i must have asked you all 500 times each, sorry. anyway, on to the music, 4/2 was obviously a litte shaky, but there were some super strong moments. after hearing sloth, NICU and stash, i was smiling like no other and then, they decided to close the first set with chalkdust, one of my personal favorites, woohoo, no words to describe it. second set was great too, wolfmans brother is always a treat and i had never heard sneakin sally live before. however what did it for me during the second set was the *light show*, incredible. now look, i've always been one of those people who can't stand still during a show, even if i try, my body just keeps grooving. however during the second set, my friend josh and i were simply mesmerized by the light show that Chris Kudora put together. unbelieveable is the only word that really comes to mind. and about this whole rushing the floor bit, i say, go for it. the more people down there the more energy, and i love the vibe on the floor. that's why i jumped over, simply because i wanted to surround myself with the atmosphere of the floor, i wasn' t hurting anyone. also i, like may other phans, don't sit during phish shows, therefore i don't want nor do i require a seat. someone else may want it, just give me a whole lotta energy and a little space to dance and i'll be all smiles. and all smiles is exactly what i was after thursday and friday night, best two evenings i've had in a long while. hope to see you all on tour this summer.

I only went to the show on April 5th, but it was incredible. Cavern and YEM blew my mind most of all, but I enjoyed fully every single minute of music that they played. There is a lot of bullshit going on about people worrying about the scene changing. Does anyone honestly expect it not to? Their music is so unique and so unbelievably good, it is no wonder that more and more people are getting into it. I didn't exactly know who Phish was ten or fifteen years ago, but that doesn't mean that I love the music any less. The Sunday show in Providence was the greatest four hours in recent memory and people should just enjoy it for what it is. Great fucking music! I don't think trey, or page wants a bunch of whiny bitches at their shows either, so just sit back and enjoy the show regardless of who's sitting next to you.

I've not the soul to tell people what's wrong and what's right, so I'll just talk about the mini-spring! I just got my tapes, and they sound great so i think I can make an accurate description of the soundz. Well 4/2 some little mishaps,(no biggie)little monitor problem in TUBE when page starts to funkasize the crowd! Then I think what an old school start, TUBE,MMGAMOIO,SLOTH! way to keep it old school then! Stash, alittle ruff for trey but again after 4 months off (no biggie)then some very interesting work that segue's into horn! WOW, that's all that needs to be said i think! Set 2 PYITE, nice, well played exciting page!Birds!!! well done (first time who knows what to expect) Wolfmans->Sally (PhunkY)!Now here's where I fell in love ROGET/RELAX this is simply the best song Phish has comeup with since stuff off of Rift, well at least in my opinion!
Twist,MONKEY! SWEET good first show! The boyz started to loosen up during set 2 encore (GYUTE)Nice So out of 10 show gets 7.5, 10 being either (11-22-97 or 12-31-95 and a few in between).Mike's->old home place->paug! Interesting! No Hampton (11-22) But noteworthy none the less!Love Trainsong,Billy !~ Reba (my profession) I am involved in this every time I hear it! on the reba scale (11-25-94 being 10) this recieves 7.5 nice I'm a firm believer in first set reba's!Set 2 ROSES!!! this is so killer!I'm glad people are starting to realize that WEEN is very talented! It takes a group like Phish to make people realize this but It's cool!Piper Always a fav since it came out!Antelope! (don't let carini get you!:)_) Encore (triple styles) Very noteworthy!Show get's an 8 out of 10 really nice adventurous!4-4 my b-day!! I'm not biased I swear! in my opinion Tweezer->taste was the highlight of all first sets on the minispring!really nicely played and a sick way to open a show! Limb by Limb was nice but set 1 is like a 7 well played but not Phenominal! set 2 MAGIC!!!!!! Birds SWEET!!!! 2001! Perhaps the nicest yet!BROTHER !! so nice what a surprise!!!!! great and reprised for the PHANS!Ghost! nicer than some of the fall versions! Quite exploratory. Lizards (little trey flubs No biggie) BOWIE,SICK,SICK,SICK!!!Encore HOOD nice set two easily best set of the minispring (once again in my opinion)! But what do I know!Set 2 9 out of 10 Show 8.5 only because of set 1! 4-5 NIce Oh kee pah->yem!! Oh ke pah had little trey flubs (he's human, I can't even play, so no argument from me) Yem (little flubs But again trey isn't an alien like jerry was) E-me for my jerry alien story! Well Theme, NIce as always, this song is destined for greatness! McGrupp unfinished I believe! but always a treat! Bathtub->cities nice really interesting combo! SPlit OPen great trey and page ! so because the setlist was nice, but there really wasn't very exploratory measures taken 7.5! Set 2 Sweet DW/D yamar !!!! Yamar! nicest in a long while TREY!!!!!!!! was in lala land doing hell knows what But it was so nice when it was just him alone!Possum, funk jam really cool! standard maze, Unstandard Oblivous Phool! CAVERN best one yet and extra lyrics, can not go wrong! Axis always great! set 2 8 show 8! So my verdict is this 4/4 was the best because of the opener and set 2! And the playing was much cleaner and very exploratory! So make mine PHISH until I have to dodge tear gas like at Dead shows!
KEEP THE VIBE ALIVE THIS SUMMER!!!! HELP OUT THE KIDZ! EVERY ONE NEEDS A FIRST SHOW! MAKE IT A POSITIVE ONE PHOR THE NEWBIES! I won't say how many I've attended (no need to) but please help eachother out! no beer bottle throwing, kicking cops, i.e. hurting others, come on use your heads please don't lose em'! I wanna be able to take my kidz to shows when they are youngins! And tell them about when i saw trey tell a thanksgiving Harpua story (11-25-94) And how My first show I only saw the last song and the encore because of snow! (12-5-92)I WANT YOU ALL TO BE ABLE TO BRING YOUR KIDZ TO SHOWS! EVERYONE, "RELAX, THE WORLD WILL SPIN BESIDE ITSELF AND SUCK YOU IN! WITH THREATS AND HOPES BEYOND COMPARE"!
from the new tune RELAX/ROGET!!!!
Christopher Cassata - underfullsail@email.msn.com
My only comment on not likeing something(ie the scene)is, No one is forcing you to be there. I have a friend that had been seeing Phish since 89 and in 95 he had it with the size and attitude of the scene and stopped seeing them. I would advise others with similar attitudes to do the same. Now on to the review!
I only made it to the two RI shows this spring. Overall, they were good. I have heard better and I have heard worse form the boys. There were plenty of great jams but.....I guess I like the jaming syle of late.....but sometimes I think that they totally lose "it" and the energy dies. At the same time I don't want them to stop pushing the envelope. That is how I felt about the shows I saw. ALL MIXED UP!!! Some jams/versions of songs blew my mind and others just didn't cut it (ie sloppy as hell).
I am just sorry that I won't be around for most of the summer tour. I am praying for lots of NE shows in the fall! Breathe deep and relax.

This review page is undoubtedly the most irritating and annoying page dedicated to Phish on the web. All you self-righteous motherfuckers out there lecturing on how people should stop bitching about the scene and clapping and whatever should take some of your own advice. If I want to bitch about stupid people who go to two shows a year and clap during songs who gives a shit. If you want to say, hey, there is nothing wrong with people clapping at shows, so be it. But don't pull this condescending, superiority bullshit where you tell me what should and should not be said on this page. I'm of the mind that this page should be used for people expressing what they thought about the tour (why are there so few reviews of the music?), whether it be the music, the scene, or whatever. But why do people feel it their responsibility to try and regulate what I and other people feel. I have my opinion and you have yours, but don't try to impress any of your "Phish values" on me.

ok, im gonna say right from the beginning that this is not, i repeat, not a review. what i am going to say is this, instead of paying attention to everyone around you at shows, what are they wearing? why are they clapping? what color baseball cap are they wearing? how old are they? do they have jobs? are they as cool as deadheads were? do any of you pay attention to phish?!! i don't know about anyone else, i'm sure i'm not the only person, but i go to shows to hear great music, not to judge everyone else who is there. thats what high school is all about, not phish shows. for christs sake lighten up! have fun, blow your mind, whatever. when i go to shows i don't care if all of the other people are old ladies, a bunch of four year olds or the republican national committee, because i know that phish is going to play and play well regardless of who is there (well, maybe not the republican national committee) just enjoy the show thats why phish exists not because of some scene but because they enjoy making incredible music. by the way, ive been to my share of dead shows too and the scene there was far from perfect, for instance, a buddy of mine got a beer bottle smashed in his face in philly becase he wouldn't give some "head" his last beer. i'll take 16 year olds singing along with and clapping to bouncin any day over that.
jason - shankly67@aol.com
-What exactly is "the scene" all about?
-What do people expect to happen before and after shows?
-Is something magical or amazing supposed to occur everytime they go to a concert?
-To all those continualy complaining about the scene...get a life!
-To all those who don't like the clapping...get a life! There has always been clapping of some sort. Clapping during Stash has occured since 92' or 93'(probably earlier). I personaly cannot remember when there was no clapping, so those of you who have seen "at least 25 shows man", and know everything about the band can kiss my rosy red but. Do your own thing at the shows, and let others do theirs. There is no proper way to conduct yourself at a show (within the confines of the law of course [except where drugs are concerned{oh yeah...and public intoxication too /why don't we just strike that law thing from the record\}]).
-Back to the scene. I cannot really relate to the dissapointment that you people feel. Personaly, the seen is good for me when I am able to see a few freinds, meet a few new people, strike up conversation with a stranger, etc. I don't see the appeal of walking around a venue like a zombie for hours on end. If I am going to be early (and have the cash) give me a warm bar, several cold Guiness, and a tasty veggie burger any day of the week (and twice on sunday).
-Anyway...the sceen is exactly what YOU, yes YOU, make of it. If you do not like it, do something that you feel will improve it! Let's get constructive about this people! Untill then...... keep your negative vibes to yo-self, man.
Yours truly, M.C. Hynd

Devise a place in your mind that is far more spectacular than any earthly convention (a personal Gamehenge, if you will). Imagine it so vivdly that it encircles your entire being and conciousness, repelling negativity. Love the music to your own fullest extent. And keep Phishin'!

The scene sucks... no matter where the venue is. Thanks to the revolting youth of today that think they are phans, I'm only going to about half the shows this summer as opposed to the whole tour (first time I'm not doing the tour in 4 years). I was disappointed in this surprise spring setlists... something is wrong...

Um, are we ever going to get to some reviews about the music? Well heres mine. The first night at nassau was a little loose but it still jammed. It was good to here some new tunes, but the oldies are still the goodies. Now for the second night. What a great show! I haven't enjoyed myself like that in a long time. Starting off with a Mike's and it just got better from there. The loving cup was great and the encore was stellar. I only saw The first Providence show, and it was alright but not phenomenal.
Oh yeah, all this bitching about the scene, why don't we just stop. Standing outside of Nassau for about ten minutes I saw at least six people get miracles so it isn't all that bad.
TKD - mm4245@msmc.accc.edu
I think the cavern from night #2 in Providence was one of the coolest things I have ever heard. There was a time when I was in fact slightly weary of hearing yet another, but now I relish (yes... relish) the oppertunity. During the Hartford encore it was tweaked beyond all recognition, and included the alternate lyrics. Alternate lyrics were in effect in Providence as well as the song melted so pleasently out of the "dance party" funk jam. HE TURNED THE KNIFE BACK ON THE BITCH AND PUSHED (?) HER IN THE DUNG!!!!! YEAH BABY!!!!!

All 4 shows were great. Lets stop bitching
about the scene or if Trey hits a couple of
wrong notes. Enjoy the music and try to ignore
the scene if it bothers you. I just saw Eric Clapton at MSG a couple days ago and the
the phish scene isn't so bad. The crowd at
Clapton consisted of Yuppie, stuck up
champagne drinking jerks. I didn't let that ruin
my time though. The Clapton show still kicked ass. And he is a phenomenal and very tasteful
guitar player. So we should realize we are very
fortunate to have a great band like Phish.
I will continue to see every show that i possibly can for a long time. Dan

I saw a kid carrying a sign in Deer Creek in '96, it simply read "What the fuck has happened to the scene?" The scene hasn't changed much in the last 4 years. Its the same kids doing the same old shit. Its nothing new. So to all of those who insist that the scene is going downhill, I say, its not about the scene. Its about music. Plain and Simple, nothing else. Its not about drugs. ITs not about a lot score. Its not even about traveling around the country on no money. PHISH HAS ALWAYS BEEN, AND ALWAYS WILL BE ABOUT MUSIC. the rest really has nothing to do with Phish, thats just the way alot of people see it, because they can't seperate the scene from the music. If you can't seperate the scene from the music then you have alot of growing to do spiritually (and musically).
"If you were here more of the day, It wouldn't twist around that way"

This is ridiculous, People complaining about EVERYTHING they can think of. There are even people complaining about people complaining!! what is that all about?? What happened to the reviews of spring??

Listen up Kids!!!
Listen to the 4/4 2nd set. Notice how when everyone starts clapping at the end of 2001 (clapping at the end of 2001???) Trey immediately starts Brother.
What am I saying???
hmm... maybe Trey gets bothered when people start clapping.

I find it Ironic that either people are being negative or complaining about the negativity and then being negative themselves. Instead of everyon e being negative why doesn't every one just write what they want to say and stop complaining about the negativity. If you have a problem with people being negative then write positive and try to show the others what Phish is really about. Poeple from all over the country comming together to experience the best act around. Life is to short to be negative. By the way the mini-tour kicked fuckins ASS!!! It has been about a year since I have seen phish and these four shows brought me right back to were I belong. See ya in the summer.
Mind what you have learned, Save you it can.
Anakin - aleste1@hofstra.edu
whine and complain all you want, but your bitching is falling on deaf ears (the ones that matter anyway). I'm too busy looking forward to the summer to care about the spring now. It seems the ones who went, didn't have a good time, and didn't belong there. For those of you who were disappointed in these shows (Especially 4/3 +4/5) - I'm sorry - BUT YOU DON'T LIKE PHISH. Plain and simple, there is no way you couldn't have had a BLAST if you do like them. SO CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP. SPRING IS DEAD>>>>>>>>>>>IT'S TIME FOR SUMMER!!!!!

I was one of the lucky ones who got tickets to the first Providence show. Everyone afterwards dissed the first set...i didn't mind it. Taste and Character Zero saved it. they were so intense i almost shit myself. the second set is just beyond words...I've never heard ghost, and boy was a lucky! it kicked complete ass. the new one, birds of a feather, is also cool. David Bowie would be proud of the closer! Peace

Andrew, I didn't go to the Shows and it's really no big deal. i love Phish and i occasionally look at your website for rumors and photos. however, i think i will no longer look at the "Reviews" or "Commments" section. truly, these people have no lives. why the hell would i waste my time arguing about clapping at a show when i'm too busy listening to the "Tube from 12/29? i do not care for any scene, i just care for phish music. i think most of these people who post these things really don't care about the music, because if they did, they would want to share the experience with others and not be so selfish as to say "Phish is our band and no teeny boppers can come to shows." whoever writes these things acts way more like a child than qany of these kids who come. or it is a case of Prep-school hippies who grew up in dysfunctional families where there parents never paid attention to them but gave them whatever they wanted. yes, i'm rambling, but i just had to throw in one last comment before forever tuning out from thre "Comments" & "Reviews" sections of your page. i'd also like to say that we should use You, ANDREW, as an example of a true Phish fan that never bitches about setlists, clapping, "Shwaggy Songs" Trey fucking up, Etc. i like how you only comment on the shows in a positive way and don't rip on kids. you have the class that Phish fans need. now, I really must get back to my "Tube". see ya.

I'm prabably going to beat a dead horse hear, but I will quickly adress the scene issue anyhow. If you have a problem with the people and activities outside of venues, avoid them altogether! This may seem difficult but it really is not. I myself arived at every show of the run no earlier than 1/2 an hour before before. This was due partly to circumstance and partly to design. Anyway, at this point my energy was directed toward getting into the shows rather than on how to deal with the seen. One more suggestion which I recomend is getting goog and toasted on your way to the venue. A heavy beer buzz, and other types of mind alteration could possibly distract you from the presence of a "bad seen man".
In other news...I saw MMW 4/17 at the Count Bassie Theatre in Redbank NJ.THE BOMB! It absolutely rocked the house! DJ Logic spun the wheels of steel for 1/2 hour before the start, layin' down random mixes w/ MMW mixes thrown in. Very Nice. MMW then proseded to play a 1 hour 1st set consisting mainly of new tunes and 1 or 2 from FAU an IJIT (sorry... the names of all tunes are lost on me). Logic spun during intermission, and remained for the second set! What happened at that point was amazing (to me anyhow). Free form funk jazz fusion with hip hop beats, samples and scratching involved. Most of the set was either extended songs from the upcoming album (August release: w/ Logic on some tracks) or improvised jams. Logic and Billy controled the rythmic action taking a new direction every few minutes. To sum it all up....I personaly think that MMW has boldly gone where few if any have gone before. It is definetely a new direction eminating from their underground NYC roots. At the end of the show it was difficult to interperet peoples reaction to it. It seemed that those who who were there to hear what was on previous albums and show tapes were walking away disapointed. Those whose minds were open on Fri., and who like MMW for their continual creative edge (never complacent) walked away smiling. I cut a rug all night at the Basie, and walked away with a great feeling about the future of music. I love Phish and other rock bands out there but I also dig jazz, hip hop, and the posobilities that the two bring to all forms of music. My advice... catch this while you can!
If anyone who reads this has tapes from 4/17, or other shows from this tour, I would love to get hold of them. I do not trade DAT, but I do have a plethora (yes... a plethora) of Dead, Phish, MMW, and related bands on analog, as well as an extensive CD catalog (several rare finds). I feel that I have taken enough of this page and your time....HAPPY 4/20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Peace Hippies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who does this fucking clown below think he is, this Clap free phish show shit in stuid! Hey Man I don't want to be so blunt but get a fucking life MAN! I am usally pretty calm and cool about this but you have gone way to far bro, hey here's an Idea if you don't like the clapping at phish shows the why go, why waste your money if all your going to do is be an asshole. It's gonna happen at any concert you go to, why don't YOU try to tell 15,000 people at a phish show to stop clapping, GOOD LUCK!! Cause I'd like to see you do it! People are just gonna laugh at you, like me HA HA HA HA I don't go to shows to see or hear people like you bitch, I go because of the pure love for Phish, seeing the four the best Musicians on earth do what they do best!! So If you don't like what goes on then DON'T GO!! I can see that I am not the only one that is pissed in what you are saying!
Sorry to all the heads for being so negative, cause I'm not usally like this! I've seen 15 shows and don't give a shit about the clapping, I just do it to have a good time. well please e-mail me if you liked what I said or disliked what I said. Peace see you all in Maryland!

While chilling in the lots before the 4-3-98 show, we started to debate over the opener. He said Rift, I said Mike's. Everytime I hear the opening to the song I go crazy. The best show I've been to I loved it . Thankyou PHISH
Josh -
I saw the whole run from start to finish.
The first day was a little loose, but that's to be expected after 4 months off.
Thursday Nassau was my favorite show of the run setlist wise. They can play Sneakin' Sally at every show as far as I'm concerned. The opening Tube, My Mind, Sloth, NICU tandem was absolutely superb. (Who would have expected such an old-school opening!!!)
That new song RELAX is REALLY tweaked out.
The first set from Friday is up there with the worst set of Phish I have ever seen. Thinking that the 1st set would be fat from the Mike>Homeplace>Weekapaug opener, I was dismayed to fins myself in the front row ten feet from Fishman while watching Trey desperately trying to find a major scale on beauty of my dreams. More new schwaggy songs were to follow including the most botched versions of Billy Breathes and Reba that I've ever heard.
I was also initially pissed when I realized the second set was only 4 songs....but what great four songs they were. Roses are free opener dissolves into the coolest and most tight jam I have ever witnessed. The guy running up on stage during lovin' cup saved the show and prompted Carini weirdness in the most original Antelope to date. Carini>Halley's>Reprise encore makes my heart beat out of my chest every time I listen to the tape!
The first set gets a 3 out of 10 at best, but the Antelope and the encore are totally off the scale.
As for Providence, Saturday second set was my favorite single set of the tour. Vocal jam out of Also Sprach leads into (Radiofriendly) Brother. Definately the best version of this song ever. For anyone not able to get a ticket to this show, (There were SOO many!)This Brother was one for the books.
I'd write more about Saturday and Sunday, but I'll leave it alone and not overanalyze anymore. Summer is gonna kick ASS!!!!

After seeing all of the negativity of late on this page, I thought I'd attempt to start a new topic. The last 2 runs of Phish have been 4 show mini-tours, and which do you think was better, the New Years run or the Spring Mini-Tour? It is on these mini-tours where the boys know they only have 4 shows and have to get it done now. I myself only got to the 29th and 4/4, but I'm sure many out there saw each and every show. I'm not going to attempt to pick which is better without the spring mini-tour tapes, but maybe those who have them or where there can compare these runs.

I SWEAR, if i read one more post about how clapping is ruining the music I'm going to vomit. Yes some people do get carried away with clapping at shows, and yes, sometimes it does bother me, but what the fuck, stop clapping alltogether? Maybe we should stop cheering and hollering too? Would you like me to stop dancing, because its bothering you?? If other people having a good time at a phish show RUINS your show, THEN STOP GOING TO SHOWS!! I can tell you something - clapping is not going to stop no matter how much you bitch. Even thinking it could is STUPID. We all like this band for the same reason - THEY FUCKING ROCK - and we all express it in different ways. ISN'T FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION PART OF WHAT THIS WHOLE PHENOMENON IS ABOUT??!! Some of you sound like Redneck jerks telling people what they can and cannot do at a show! CLAP, CHEER HOLLER, FUCKING STAND ON YOUR HANDS AND KNEES AT A SHOW IF YOU WANT TO, DON'T LET THESE JERKS STOP YOU!!
justin - guyute@mem.net
stop the bitching??? it's ruining the music???
that's a bitch, in-and-of-itself.
Down with the tree-hugging hippie crap.
PHISH IS A CORPORATION, ONLY PEOPLE WITH JOBS SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE CORPORATION.
I realize that most people on the net, here at Andy's, must have some sort of job, and in-turn, are not of the Tourscum variety.
So, let's get together and make this scene work.
(wow, see how gay that sounds.)
I like to drive to the show and hour before, get out of the car, see the show, get back in my car, and travel on my merry little way.
So who gives a fuck what the scene looks like as far as I am concerned.
Go Hasek!

I can't believe this shit I'm reading. I don't care about the clapping. Ok, it's annoying, but who the fuck is cutting down on the younger phans. Oh shit, like they are too young to appreciate good music? These aren't the kids bringing nitrous tanks to the shows or jumping up on stage (what the hell was the deal with that). Shit, I started listening to Phish when I was 15, and I went to a show. I'm gald people were almost accepting back then, but man, I'd hate to be a young phan now. That is a huge difference between phish and the dead. Deadheads were willing to be cool to anyone who had the good sense to see the greatest music ever. Now young phans have to be watching their back for fucked up glances from people who are pissed that their personal band is getting popular. Fuck that. How bout this. I am the last person who is going to bitch on this page, so let me get it all out of the way. Frat boys with sorority bitches suck. Ok, that's it. BUT, you are only a frat boy if you came for the beer (which I never understood cause the dank is so much better). There. The scene is starting to suck and it is up to us, ONLY US, to bring it back. Let me just pose a question before I leave. When I used to go to Dead shows (at the age of 12 and 13 mind you) how come everyone got along there. How come that scene didn't fall apart (except for that last tour but that was just not wanted by the gods). How did the dead (who were a lot bigger than Phish every will be), with every type of person from the Casy Jones singing beer junkie to the mellowed out 50 year old brother get along for 30 FUCKING YEARS. Deal people. Go for the music. Stay for the scene, not the other way around. Bye, and remember, no more bitching is allowed on this page. I am ophishally the last one.
-
Begin bitching........NOW!
Phish show in 89 - "Here, smoke this!"
Phish show in 92 - "Hey, nice dreadlocks!"
Phish show in 94 - "Do you have any spare food?"
Phish show in Providence 98 - "Can I have one of those chicken wings?","Can I bum a smoke?"
or
"MAN W/ JOB - Yeah, i guess i'll buy you a beer....
TOURSCUM - Thanx, how much is a beer?
MAN W/ JOB - Beers are a buck-fifty.
TOURSCUM - OK, well, will you buy me a buck fifty's worth of food?"
4/4 and 4/5 were great shows. mike seemed to be louder, i think the PFLAM or whatever its called worked. YEM was tight. birds of a feather, i like. thank god the "dude of life at one of the prov shows" rumour was JUST a rumour...can't wait til lemonwheel...
Stop Clapping, for the love of music, i mean, think about it, a bunch of mammals, slapping the palms of there hands together repeatedly, kinda makes you look retarded!
ok, go ahead, blah blah blah....
Get a Job, then you can BUY tickets before you go to the show! There's an idea!!!! - minkin@isp.net
Its dope how most of these reviews are actually
complaints about the scene. Its all become a big
popularity contest, and most people aren't even
concerned with the music. I was psyched for summer
tour, but now I regret spending hundreds of dollars
mail-ordering tickets. There are other bands out
there with improv talent, and people will go to see
them for the music. (i.e. Dexter Grove, Strangefolk,
Widespread, etc.) Hopefully Phish will loose their
popularity while I'm still relatively young. We should
at least try to enjoy ourselves this summer. Yes, the
band has changed, but they haven't sold out. They are
just trendy to tenny-boppers, and hopefully this is
just a faze. Stay strong, and remain ital.

What can I say, the music speaks for itself. Im writing to talk about the scene. I see nothing wrong with selling all sorts of goods to get by in life and keep on living. However, I see plenty of things wrong with trying to sneak into a show. I can't tell you how many people I talked to in Providence whom bragged about how they've been to 12 shows and never payed for a ticket. They were damn proud of that too. And a lot of these people weren't even the ones selling anything. They weren't even making an effort to buy a ticket. It never crossed their mind. They probably wanted their drugs for free as well. I don't understand the whole concept. I don't see why heads can't get a job on phish's downtime and save up. What else is their to do besides be lazy. And if you want to be lazy, you can't have both. Save all of the anti-authoritative and anti-society crap for when you win the lottery. Believe me, I really don't like any type of authority and the majority of people in society I meet are revolved around the dollar bill( not my cup of tea), but I work to afford luxuries such as Phish. Believe me, it is worth it. If your'e thinking no funking way, the tours are going to get smaller, and smaller, and smaller,,, and security is going to get tighter, and tighter, and tighter.
-
Saw both Providence shows - Sunday night was definitely the highlight for me. Did anyone else see the people on the right side of the audience (if you're looking at the stage) that were wearing glowsticks on their arms, legs, and head? It was pretty funny to watch. They got tired near the end of the second set but were dancing like crazy during the first set. Very cool idea...

I thought 4/4 first set was rather lax but Tweezer saved it big time. Funky bitch and Zero wern't so bad either, but the rest was rather ho-hum. But it did give me something to look forward to. The next three sets at those shows were absolutely fantastic. Lets see???
Birds of feather, Ghost, Hood, Bowie (not 94 though) , YEM "vocal jam", Mcgrupp, Trey just jamming by himself in YaMar, maze,Funked out cavern, oblivious fool!!!!
How can you complain. Can't wait for Deer Creek and beyond. Later
Drew Gullotti - agullo@providence.edu

4/4-First Set was basic with some exceptions. First, I had my Tweezer shirt on so I was happy about that opening. You could tell before they started by the warmup notes. Its been played five out of six times that Ive seen them, taking the lead, so I was psyched. From there, some mediocrity. I see Taste just about everytime so Im a bit sick of it. Decent version, not like 12-30 at all. Bounce, Bitch, Ginseng, all standard, nothing to shout at. Limb by Limb was a highlight of the Went so I was eager to here it at Providence, and of course it was great. Gotta love the hysterics involved in Lawn Boy, and Zero then tied Tweezer for five times. Not my favorite way to end a set, but the first was average.
Second Set-Birds of a Feather, very Taking Heads, but jammed nicely. Bizarre choice of words for a chorus, but who am I to argue with Mr. Marshall. From there, 2001, BROTHER!!!, Ghost, Lizards, Bowie, Hood encore. If you need adjectives buy a dictionary, the third best set Ive seen trailing only the two 12-30 sets. I was hoping for a little funkyness in Ghost, but Brother was my fave of the show. And I dont mean the radio friendly version either.
Solid show, phenominal second set. Oops threw in an adjective.
Chris Piccirillo - PICCIRILLO@scsu.ctstateu.edu
For anyone who thinks that it is wrong to clap at Phish shows, i just have to say one thing - STASH!
loosen up - a phish show is to enjoy not to bitch about
i thoght all 4 shows were great ,more enjoyable for me than the fall or Dec msg shows. the nassau run was good esp fri 2nd set the roses into piper was great the piper ,my fav new tune built up very slowly and sustained an incredible amount of energy ,this one will keep opening up more &more it will be the highlight of shows to come. Providence was outrageous the 1st set sat was patchy but the second set was thick with jamming, definately rough around the edges but all four of the band were cotributing more in unison than i've seen for a while. Sunday was a fitting capper for the run. both sets were great they got a little tired out at the end though. the versions of many songs from this show became favorites instantly YEM, Theme,Yamar,Caspian and maze if it had been finished, but after a Great page solo trey curved it into another song instead of picking up where page left off. Also any band whose brand new songs blow you away like Birds \Feather did me ,shows such promise and growth that i will attend any Phish show with greater excitement and curiosity than ever before. After seeing the band for 9 yrs. i've come to expect to be thrilled by tunes i have not yet heard, and in the last year this has become the most thrilling part of Phish for me. The creativity is booming, dig it now kids. I'll give up perfection in song structure for the inspiration and raw power they delivered this April any time.
Ps the non-clappers seem kind of fascist to me ,i like to hear as clearly as i can too ,but it is a concert ,and one where the interaction between the people and the band is thick in the air, so in most ways clapping is a natural reaction that strengthens that bond , any time thousands of people are clapping in time it means that the band is getting through to them ,and that they wish to extend this back to the band. I am not a "clapper" but the guys in front of me in Nassau yelling don't clap and shhhh bothered me much more than any happy go lucky clapper cuold have. They seemed like they arrived with their clapper hatred deeply inbeded, and seeemed a little to attached to their non-clap agenda. The clappers had more fun i'm sure .So If you dont like clapping lead by example and remain silent.

The night I saw them was awesome. The past times I've seen the band have been awesome. The summer tour is going to be awesome!! To all the people who continuously bad mouth the shows please don't go. It gives me more room to breath...if that is allowed at shows. There is no point to go to the show if YOU KNOW that you will give it a bad review. There is always a highlight in every show. I will sit down with someone and find a highlight in every tape that I own! There is something good that comes out of every show. When will you people see that? Look at all the responses on this page, they all suck!!! IT sends a message that a majority of "Phans" are hypocrites. It makes me feel sorry for you people. To all the "True Phans," keep up the good work; make sure you find every single note that Trey fucks up. Make sure you are having a bad time. Remember that you are there to get completely wasted!! Yes, Phish is, and was on 4/2 and 4/3 very good. Tube to start things off let everyone know that the groove will persist in '98. And I will certainly not object. My Mind's is my favorite bluegrass, and contains some of my favorite lyrics to a Phish song, even if they're not their own. Slightly flubbed versions of NICU and Sloth were made up for with an insane Stash. Real spaced out, and I thought I heard Fish trying to start up Time (oddly enough this same hi-hat pattern would, if my memory serves me, show up later in Roget). The second set highlight for me was undoubtedly Wolfman's->Sally. The Sally sounded tighter than the 12-30 version(s), but obviously lacked the spontaneity. The lights/Aliens Are Landing madness during Twist Around was, for lack of a better word, trippy. Gyute encore was tight, and I couldn't help but imagine the band sitting around for the last four months practicing the tune like never before so as to make up for 12-30 and silence the critics. 4/3 was, for numerous reasons, the better of the two for me. Mike's->TOHP->Paug was great, but the highlight of the run for me probably came during Reba, a song seldom played as of late. I don't remember specifics, but the chill part was jammed out to great heights. The second set was a great segue set, and I wouldn't hesitate to call Roses the tune that carried this great set, although the energy by the climax in Antelope was at a peak. The encore was phenomenol. Carini was much tighter than 12-30, but I don't know about that vocal jam at the end. A little repetitive. Under the circumstances, I thought it was great when Trey called Carini up (again), but it sounded so much like 12-30 the way he said it I was honestly a little disappointed. I would just hate to see a classic moment be repeated over and over. Halley's was a surprise for me, and was a great chance to get down. Tweeprise was standard craziness in the crowd and a great end to a nice stand. My overall impression of these shows was very good. I thought they sounded well rehearsed and there weren't as many little fuck-ups as I seem to find in many 97 shows. As far as the scene is concerned, I am, by all accounts, very tired of it. The whole bumming beers/cigarettes/sips thing is getting ridiculous. I'm all for a sharing community, but, without resorting to stereotypes, it seems as though the same people who continually do this are those who contribute a great deal of negative energy on the whole scene. If people find it necessary, however, go ahead, there's no real harm to it. But don't give dirty looks or resort to begging if I say no. I don't think the majority of the people who read this page are the ones who engage in this behavior, but it has become my pet peeve at shows lately. On that note, PLEASE STOP CLAPPING.

I agree 100% that the clapping gets out of hand. Do people think that Fishman can't keep a beat? I don't understand why people want to start clapping when Trey is soloing in Yamar (4/5). He was the only person playing and he was getting deep. Maybe if everyone actually kept the same beat, but that won't happen so stop random group clapping. Fishman can keep the beat just fine.

I just saw the Clapton concert at Gund Arena in
Cleveland (4/12/98) Started with a bunch of new
tunes, swicted to acoustic midway through (Tears
from Heaven, Layla, etc.), new version of I Shot
the Sheriff, closed the show with Cocaine. Encore
was Sunshine of Your Love (where's Mike Gordon
when you need him?) It was quite a change of pace
to attend a concert where everyone actually sat in
their reserved seats. This was unfortunate for us
considering we were in the nosebleeds. There
definitely wasn't the anticipation/energy of a
Phish show (at least for me), but there was some
superb guitar playing.
On a different note:
"The brothel bitch, she grabbed the knife and slashed me on the tongue. So I turned the blade back on the bitch, and dropped her in the dung."
-- original Cavern lyric, as sung 4/5/98.
"Carini's gonna get you."

I had a great time. I never heard a YEM and I was so very excited. I also enjoyed the rockytop closer the first night of Nassau. Thank you.

I loved all four shows. I am not going to bitch about anything--as far as I am concerned, this was the best weekend of my life. What I will say is DOES ANYBODY HAVE TAPES FROM ANY OF THE SHOWS(PROVIDENCE PREFERRED)? I HAVE A GOOD LIST TO TRADE WITH--ESPECIALLY 88-94--PLEASE, MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH PHISH IS THAT I CAN'T GET SHOWS FAST ENOUGH, OR AT ALL!!! I LOVE ALL YOU FREAKS.

4/3 Review:
I
Mikes: Opener blows away all expectations, Very tight Mikes w/ "Bring in the New" licks a la Albany from Trey and Mike. Nothing really exploratory at about 11 Mikes becomes very umikes like, Jamming around a major style progression, very obviously a segue at this point, I tentatively and sadly identify it as Sparkle but am happily proved wrong as I hear emerging from Mikes…
MOHP: My fav country tune, Good to hear albeit the placement is a little weird… They pause at the end before Fish starts…
Weekapaug: The drumming at the beginning sounds more like SOAM than weekapaug but Mike quickly dispels any thought that it might be SOAM with a FAT intro, he really is laying down the groove. The weekapaug quickly becomes a spiritual experience beautiful Weekapaug style for a few minutes before going into…
Jam: At first I am hearing serious hints of Great Curve but as the jam begins to smoke it turns into an all out Cross-Eyed and Painless fest. One of my favorite jams from the shows, back into…
Weekapaug: Not the typical ending with singing they just keep building and building until the tune roars to a thunderous conclusion, WHOO! Its time to chill with…
Trainsong: I love this one to, Mike just sounds awesome when he sings this…
Billy Breathes: Trey has A LOT of trouble with this one, not only the lyrics but the chords as well and the solo is usually a few beats late, but who am I to complain, it's a great mellow song…
Dog Stole Things: I have NEVER heard this song and not instantly identified it as Mound, I quickly recovered and realized that this was history in the making, a DST that I Really liked! I always enjoy the funny words that make you look at your dog in a completely different way, but this one really sounded good…
REBA!: Absolutely beautiful, Hose for a few moments during a great reba jam. Complete with whistling too, what a treat! Segues, kinda, into…
My Soul: I know that they play it too much, but this one was SMOKING, IMO the best one ever! It was a good choice to end the set. Rocked out for about 8 or 9 minutes.
II
Roses Are Free: I didn't identify it at first 'cause it had kind of a different intro type thing, but the lyrics clued me in. This is a great tune, I love Ween! But anyway after playing around the roses are free progression for a couple of minutes they move into…
JAM: Indescribable, it must have been around 25 minutes and contained some really beautiful mellow jamming as well as a little of the funk stuff, by this point I knew that we were in for a hoseFEST, I got it during the chill part when everyone around me was sitting down but I was really, really feeling a good vibe from the band. As the jam winds down they segue, but not in the same way it got segued into in the fall…
Piper: No stop in the music but Trey does the finger picking intro and I am nearly busting, I cant believe it. Piper builds for what seems like and eternity with the words playing in my head long before and long after Trey sings it, This song has the power to take over ones body and lift it to another plain, like NO other phish song, imo. GOLDEN HOSE(I am overusing that but this was a big show for that) The band was so connected with the crowd, and I have never, except possibly at numerous NYE's felt so much energy during a show, I know the band felt it too and they were playing off of it. The outro jam to Piper got kind of dark and moody and was pretty long probably around 10 minutes, at a point in the jam they all stopped except Page, who played for about a minute before starting…
LOVING CUP!: I just looked at the girl next to me and smiled the biggest smile of the night, there was nothing I could say it was so perfect, I don't know how this setlist looks to people who werent at the show, but the song selection was perfect! The loving cup was excellent in that special way that only Loving cup can be. I know you've all heard about the guy jumping on stage at the end so I wont get into it except to comment that I think I saw him at either Sugarbush '95 or Clifford Ball I cant remember which but I remember it was a Vermont area show and I seem to remember that Tiger backpack…
Antelope: Fish does his little bit: "You can come up on stage, but don't let Carini get you…" Which I think was just his way of telling Trey that he wanted to play Carini because the security guy that went after the stage climber was NOT pete carini! I also thought by the way fishman was acting that he wanted to go into it right away, just a feeling. But anyway it was a smoking Antelope, when they got to the Ry Ry Rocco part it was really slow, reggae like and everyone sensed Makisupa but it didn't happen. When Trey said Marco Esquandolas, my friends and I agreed he wanted to say something to immortalize the guy who jumped on stage a la one of those summer 93 shows with the Makiprise where he says "Marco Policemandolas" because he said Marco and then paused and said in a half-hearted fashion Esquandol trailing off…Then when the gearshift shifted once again they did a start stop thing as follows: "Run Run" and then theyd stop and be totally quiet for the eight beats and then do it again, until the "Set the Gearshift…" which he sang/spoke a la the Lawnboy version as opposed to most shows where he shouts it. Anyway the loudest pre-encore cheering I have ever heard and we werent dissappointed.
E:
Carini: The one tune that my buddies and I had really been hoping for having missed out on 12/30 and we got great version. Guest appearance by Pete himself and a weird vocal outro which segues into…
HALLEYS: I felt it coming as soon as the intsruments stopped and the voices started but it was still a shock when out of "CARINI HAD A LUMPY HEAD" chanting Mike came in with his "Bop Chu, Bop Bop a CHU CHU", a great version, the outro jam was much more like the old one but with some hinting at the fall sound segues(kinda) into…
Tweezprise: Great selection, I mean you're not always psyched for Tweezer of any kind but this was simply beautiful! The lights were spinning and the roar of the crowd was unbeleivable and next to the Went this is the best version Ive heard. A great end to a great show.
Possibly the best show ive seen!

4/4 Set II...Perhaps one of the best sets of Phish I have
ever heard. They were INTO that stuff, you dont play
Brother, Lizards, Bowie, Ghost, 2001 and encore Hood if you
arent in the groove. Perfect.

Hi. I caught 4.2 and 4.3. Went to 4.2 with a first-timer which always makes me a little uneasy. Luckily she was blown away which made it much more enjoyable for me. The highlight of the show I'd have to say was the light show. Chris is really improving. As for 4.3, that triple encore was as intense as they come. Did any of you notice how perfect the vocals on Halley's were? Sooooo professional. As for the scene... I really don't give two shits about the scene. There's good folks, there's idiots, there's hippies, there's pseudo-hippies, there's heads, there's first-timers, there's frat boys, there's dogs and cats, there's little 8th graders... bottom line: I don't care. I go to see a band called Phish and so far they've been there every time.

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to say that even though I was only able to go to 4/2 at Nassau, I think it was unbelieveable! Some people noticed a few "messups" but with their incredible improvisation they were able to make it appear as though it was sort of on purpose. Also the light show was amazing. All in all I'd say it was a pretty awsome show but I can't wait until the summer tour. There is just something magical about summer shows that can't be explained. One quick comment about the "scene". I am 18 years old. I am not really as earthy or hippied out as some of the other fans but i have no problem with anyone who wants to go see Phish and just go have a mind boggaling experiance. I may have been mistaken for one of the "frat boys girlfriends" (WHICH I AM NOT)I just don't understand why we can't accept everyone the way they are regardless of their age, clothes, etc. WE ALL SHARE ONE THING IN COMMON ------THAT IS LISTENING TO PHISH --- ISN'T THAT ENOUGH??????? ONE LAST THING ----PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE TRY AND BE A LITTLE MORE CONCIOUS OF YOUR MESS AT UPCOMING SHOWS. ALL THE BEER BOTTLES AND ASSORTED TRASH MADE US LOOK LIKE A BUNCH OF PIGS!!!!! WE NEED TO BE A LITTLE MORE CONSIDARATE OF THOSE WHO LIVE IN THE TOWN AND REMEMBER THAT SOMEONE WILL HAVE TO CLEAN UP AFTER US, SO WE CAN AT LEAST DO OUR PART!!!
Kate, BALTO. MD -
yeah, but there is a difference between a personal review and a newspaper critique.
If you feel the scene sucks, speak of it!
Just remember, you don't have to anonymously flame us for being at the scene.
I will say that the bumming of extra smokes has gotten out of hand, since, I've never opened up a pack of marlbies and found 21 cigarettes, it's always just 20...hmmmpf...
and yeah, DOWN WITH CLAPPING!
Be Nice! -
If you look close enough on Fishman's kit, you will see what I feel is one of the best quotes I have ever had the pleasure of reading, it goes something like - "There are no monuments made for critics." I didn't see the shows, my phriend in Manhattan said they jammed... I trust his judgement... I thought the quote was fitting.
Ken M - phishguy@worldnet.att.com
I was only able to attend the 4/2 show, had prior commitment to go see ratdog in philly and Atlantic City, however I was glad to get my phish fix in,the band seemed happy to be doing what they do best and thats play live. I don't think I ever seen Trey rip into a chaulkdust like that and the funk of wolfmans bro>sneaking sally really moved me. I think that kimmy t had some nice insight as to what its all about....it's the music...the way it moves your soul...I'm happy that I can be a part of this, I don't care what happens in the parking lot, however it will give the band a bad name to the powers that be...and they may not be able to come your home town anymore (redrocks) but what I'm saying is don't lose sight of what we are here for and that the music......peace,love,and chaulkdust

Trey was playing a solo by himself, mike page and fish stopped playing, it was really cool till the idiot cheerleaders in the crowd started clapping along like it was a fuckin hoedown. Hello...this is Sunshine. In regards to my account of 10/22/96 MSG show, I do apologize for my forgetfulness. In Set I, Talk was between Ice and SOAM. In Set II, after DWD, a phat Taste and an even phatter Mango. then Page's Elvis impersonation in Lawn Boy. Swept and Steep was included in Mike's>Groove. Sorry for the confusion. Sunshine

Generally all strong shows. I can't really say there was a single standout out of the four, but there was a common theme: funk. Trey faded in and out of periods of being totally lost on his strings, and just out of the rythm, and into moments of glory. It seems like his playing has changed a lot over the course of the last year or so....much more groove, and less soaring. It's good though, because it brings forth the less conspicuous exploits of the band; namely Page. Anyways, it seems like the more shows I see, the more I feel like a minority as a phishfan. This is getting pretty absurd folks. I don't have dreadlocks, don't wear those ugly ass patchwork pants, and I employ a level of personal hygiene (SP?). I think phish's scene has changed a lot over the past few years and it sucks, it gives the fans who are foremostly devoted to loving the musicianship that is phish a bad reputation. On the way from Nassau to Providence, I was handcuffed and our car was searched. The whole time, the cops kept saying shit like "you guys are going to see Phish, so we know you've got all kinds of shit in the car...where's your acid...I know you guys have a sheet for us." Thanks, "kids".
nugface -
it's the music that matters, not the scene. i went to 4/3,4 & 5. 4/3 definitely the best. providence was very standard. the band was'nt on fire as they were in nassau. song sets for providence very common, w/ the exception of oh kee pa. perhaps i see them too much.
mikey -
All the open minds and positive attitudes were with the Dead. Phish phans had this in the early 90's but now it really is pathetic. The older Deadheads taught the new ones how to act and what was appropriate. The new Phish fans do not have this benefit.
I, for one, and embarassed by the majority of PHISH fans. Obviously, there are some great people out there...I met some in Providence but generally speaking, the scene sucks. Who are all these kids? Hiya kids, hiya kids, hiya kids, hiya, hiya, hiya, hiya hiya kids. Hey kids, it's how the band is playing that counts, NOT the setlist. I will always have a good time at the shows..I go with good people and we always meet other good people BUT the current scene is so much WORSE than the Dead scene ever was.

Best Shows of the run:\
4/4 without a doubt - listen to the tapes!
4/3
4/5 killer 1st set list, not as well played as 4/4

The shows were incredible. The experience was incredible. Yeah, we all know that the scene has changed a bit, but what happened to all the open minds and positive attitudes out there. Phish isn't going to change because there are some middle schoolers and frat boyz out there. Just don't worry about everyone else. Concentrate on the reason why YOU are there. You'll enjoy it alot more.

Only saw 4/2, I got shut-out from the rest, but of my 81 shows it's up there with the powerful. It was one of those defining shows for me because I was determined to enjoy every possible note the band played. When they started Wolfman's, I thought "run with it boys!" and they did. SNEAKIN'SALLY!!!!! (I missed 12/30)- of all the songs they played during those four days, this is the one that I'm glad I didn't miss. I could've sworn they were headed into 2001, Fishman was the only one that didn't swing into it, even Chris K seemed to get his lights prepped for ASZ. Peak moments- Stash buildup jam (I was either goin' to explode or cry, but they never really peaked out)- Tube, when Trey had the spotlight on him for just two measures and then they struck back with the fierce double-funk -Guyute is a killer encore!-
As far as the lot scene goes, the only people that bug me are the ones who judge just by looking at a person. There IS such a thing as a "real" phishead and a "poser" phishead, but you can't tell them by sight, you have to talk to people before you can blast them. I've got about 400 tapes, and I've seen 81 shows, and I love Phish with every bit of meat in me, but there are a load of people that I'd consider to be deeper than me. No matter how cool you are, there is always someone cooler.
WHEN DO WE GET THE DESTINY UNBOUND CHANT TOGETHER!
p.s.-Even poser phisheads have hope, they just need to feel and care for the music. Drugs are cool but we can do them everyday, everyone should see a stellar show sober once.

incredible show...a 30 minute You Enjoy Myself...
Maze, Bahtub Gin, Possum, Encore Axis:Bold As Love
The show itself was just an endless stream of
funky jams that seesawed up and down...both
relaxing and energizing...the first set covered
a wide span from all the studio releases...
the second was just one long song, it seemed,
from down with disease to cavern to new stuff
if you can get a tape...get it!

Although this is not a Spring Tour show, this was THE show that cemented my interest in Phish music.
October 22, 1996 at MSG, NY. I had only experienced Phish four times by this concert and was still in the "Wow!! This scene is crazy!" stage. Only 6 months ago I heard Phish for the first time and thought that Contact was ridiculous. It took YEM to get me going. Which is probably the reason I fell into a massive brain melt when YEM ended the first set in screaming fashion!
Anyway, I guess my travles to NY was magical and fated. During the whole excursion there were times when I didn't think my friend and I were gonna to make it, but every time something crazy happened to send us back on the path. (Faith is a powerful path finder!)
I would write, or type, down all the details and fun stuff that occurred, but that would be looooong. For this review, I'll just include the Garden stuff.
Curtain was the set opener, never heard it before, but immenseley enjoyed it. Not all that abnormal.
Runaway Jim was pretty much the same (I had seen it 4 nights before at Civic Arena, Pittsburgh).
The first couple of bass notes from Gordan arrested my attention. It was Bouncin' and had been wanting to hear it. So, as Bouncin' kicked in, all I remember doing was bouncing up and down and saying, "Oh my god!!" about a dozen times. Finally I was able to come back to earth and start groovin' really hard. Also, I remember thinking, "Hey, i think the fungus is kicking in!" At the end of Bouncin' I turned and ran up to my friend and gave her the biggest hug I think I ever gave.
Ice was absolutely incredible!!
SOA Melt really did a number on my brain and as the song goes, I think I literally split open and melted into some cosmic plain that I am still trying to come back from, but I'm really not trying too hard, if ya know what i mean.
Sparkle. ummm, well the only thing I can say besides the obvious is that it was so damn fast that I just held my head and proceded through the realm of insanity with a giant smile. I think I sent out some of my thoughts to Trey because I really needed a Free.
Free was beautiful and very restfully energetic.
At the songs close there was a weird tension as the last note was warped and stretched and as I would soon realize, set the stage for a very phantastic trip into my psyche.
When I heard the first notes to YEM, I just stood there catatonic for a while trying to figure out whether or not my existence had been stolen by Trey?
YEM wove a tight web around every part of my spirit and ended in Phish screaming into the microphones!! and that's where they left us, in one massive puddle of question marks.
During set break, there was a eerie silence. I think that the Universal Mind was still figuring out where it had been taken and why it had been dropped off and abandoned in the desert of musical dimensia.
As if Phish knew what they had done, in the second set opener, they joined us out in space and comforted our weary minds with a phat 2001.
Disease was funky and right on.
Page delivered Talk like Elvis never could. Seranading the first row and to the delight of all of us.
What happened next, is a matter of pure craziness. Perhaps the best Scent of a Mule ever. (of course that's my opion, but...) In the vocal jam, Trey wanted to break back into Scent, but Page wouldn't allow it. Trey just looked at him and gave a "You're nutty, but oh well" type of smile.
Mike's Groove was insane, not because it was soooo good, but because of what happened in the middle of Weekapaug. All of a sudden these costumed dancers came out onto the stage and started groovin' to the music. It was INSANE!!!! One of them jumped onto Page's piano and started contorting into what seemed like painfully impossible positions. I thought they were cats!!
I asked my friend, who lives in New York, if they were the cast from the musical play called Cats?
All should could reply was "What?" I guess in less stable times and more sober times, she might have been able to answer. I guess that encapsulates the whole night.
Although the show thoroughly rocked my world, the only minor disappointment was the encore.
Trey introduced Merle Saunders and Buddy Miles to the stage. Merle asked us if we liked any Bob Dylan and we answered in an overwhelming YES!!!
I really like Merle and Buddy, but i didn't particulary like the All Along the Watchtower that they did, which ended in the chorus to Stairway to Heaven. Oh well.
Anyway, I still haven't found my sanity since then nor do I think I want to, but second night at MSG was the phattiest phatty daddy show I've had the pleasure of groovin' to, and anybody who was there too is still lost in space. Peace and love to my brothers and sisters and keep dancin' and spreadin' the love! Sunshine

friday night was definetly some shit, one of the best shows i ve been to. w/o a doubt the dealing at these shows has gotten out of control, if ya gotta deal to stay above water thats allright but to deal cause it cool or you think its what the band is all about thats stupid. its music and a sick time

I don't see why so many people have complaints about this or that type of person at a phish show! Phish is an amazing experience and everybody should be allowed to enjoy it in their own way. just relax, smile and do your own thing, and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy..

HI EVERYONE !!! :)
4/5/98 Providence was the phattest show i have been to yet. (it was my 5th show to date). my first show was at the went. having nothing to compare it by i didn't realize (well i sort of did) that it could have been better--a lot better!! but now that i have seen phish more, i realize that every time i see them they just keep getting better and sounding sweeter and sweeter to me. for a "newbie" that is. i went to saturdays show and had a great time. it was a solid show. but SUNDAY was just amazing. that is the first time i've really seen them with all fires burning. they were so on. they were so jamming. they were so phatty. it blew me away. i danced and danced and danced. i watched i listened i soaked up the good vibes. we had good seats on page's side. we were 2nd row second level, so me and my friend went up to the railing and just danced away. i could see page (finally) playing and had perfect views from there of trey, gordon, and phishman. personally, i think sparkle and soam were really good. so was theme from the bottom, dwd, possum, shit EVERYTHING WAS GOOD AND EVERYTHING WAS SOMETHING I WANTED TO HEAR!!! I could never complain about what they did or didn't play because i love it all and love to hear it all LIVE!!! since i just got into phish recently, i never thought they could compete with the dead in my heart and mind in my regards, respect, appreciation and love of them. But after Sundays show in providence i now know that phish is made of some very fine material. of course, they will never replace the dead, but they will come to hold the same levels of respect and love in my heart (i can already see that). both bands have such harmony. such beauty. they have such an ability to lift you to unexpected and unbelievable heights. they go beyond music into the soul. they do this through the power of their music, through their lyrics and their jams. for the dead, i only caught the tail-end of an amazing era of music--of Jerry's voice and of the messages it brought. I am SOO excited to bein the middle of the phish era. to be a part of it. it is like i am inside it, growing with it and moving beyond space and time. it is going to be a great adventure. i don't let the supposed "un"phans that people bitch about bother me (everyone has a right to hear), i block all else out but the music, the band, and my beautiful friends. phish's music is a living entity with more power and soul to move than most humans will ever have. i'm so glad that i had the opportunity to go to the went, even as a "newbie", all of us started somewhere as non-phans. i'm so glad to have had the opportunity of this mini-spring tour. if we hadn't, it'd be such a longer wait for the summer than it already is. i think that everyone complaining is forgetting what we are all really there for: for that incredible place the music takes each and every one of us. though it may be different for each of us: it is a place beyond this world and its filth. beyond bitching and complaining. it lifts our souls. if you concern yourself with all the other rot too much, you are going to lose that feeling and then what will you have left?????? don't ruin the beauty, peace, and moments of pure delight we have all found in the music by stressing over everyday societal concerns--you are just getting caught up in the trap that they want you ensnared in and at that moment when you let that happen, you are no better than them. :)

"Ive had it with this crap" This is the first line I read when I go to Andys page to read about the band that I love to go see. Silly me to think that there would be any talk of the MUSIC. What is happening to this group who once had a common bond? Every other word of the spring thoughts segment was bithching about the whole east-west coast deal and now its all about who acts cooler on tour. I dont know about anyone else out there but id like to sit back and start listening to the music again. Were all talking so loud that we cant hear eachother let alone what were all here for. I for one missed all 4 shows and would like to see what you have to say about the MUSIC not about how fucked up things are. That is just my opinion on what im seeing here. There is something much bigger here than "the scene"

First night of Nassau is my pick...

I've had it with this crap! Take your hippie crack and put it where the sun don't shine. Just hope your not at the same campground or lot as I am during a show cuz I'm turning in any Nitrous Tank I can find this summer. Leave our scene alone the band doesn't like it, the towns don't like it, and when your watching some 14 year old trying to stand in line for a tank killing his brain it is a very sad sight. In fact I'm very excited to get as many nitrous venders put in jail as I possibly can! Smoking some weed doin some hallucinagenic drugs doesn't bother me but when I see brothers and sisters waiting in line to get there crack that brings a tear to my eye and i will do everything I can to try to bring an end to it. That's all I really have to say about that.

I just read a post on a different page that said Birds Of A Feather is a cover song written in the sixties by Paul Revere and Mark Lindsay!!! CAN ANYONE CONFIRM THIS????? IF SO PLEASE MAIL ME OR POST IT UP HERE!!!

In the response to my last post saying I thought it was too bad that a cop got kicked in the face by a fan cuz that's what's killing our scene. I got the following reply...

In response to your posting, I hope it was a real fan who kicked that
dirty pig in the face. What do those fat assholes think they're doing
trying to bust up a group of people trying to share a Phish show. If a
cop ever tried to kick me out of a show, I would go nuts and hopefully
land at least one on his face. Pigs just don't understand what it's all
about, that it's all positive and harmless. They have no business at a
Phish show and should be kicked as often as possible.

Correct me if I'm wrong . . . but wasn't Birds of a Feather played on 5-21-97 at Club Toast? Great mini-tour.
-
Here's the skinny...
4/2 has some errors in some of the songs (most noticable was in Sloth) but other than that it was a kick ass show as I'm sure the rest of the "mini-tour" was. The glowstick thing is okay I guess... But I really feel that it's gotten a bit out of hand. A comment on the "scene" -- there won't be much of a scene left if people keep going to shows to buy/sell drugs, rush the floor, etc... You'll all go to jail and the current scene will develop into a real community -- rid of the "more granola than thou" people and the dealers. Please, try to keep clean and love Phish for the MUSIC, because it's really what makes us all a family. I feel that I can only have wishful thoughts of a scene made up of all different types of people -- hippies, normal looking people (like myself), kiddies, and older folk -- all accepting of one another. That's what a family is, not a parking lot turned drug market.
if you have any comments drop me a line.

Thursday night: Sounded like they hadn't played together in months. Fishman was off on a number of occasions, I think Trey commented on it at the end of the first set. Friday: Fishman must have got some practicing in because they came ready to play. Second set included some of the most solid spacey/ funk jamming of the run (Twist Around jam was incredible). Saturday: Bother and Ghost were nice to hear, but jamming seemed kind of sloppy and disconnected. Sunday: Oh Kee Pah into YEM, second set funk jam and funky Cavern were fun for all! What's up with all the scene reviewing? People need to accept the fact that Phish is "cool", they have been for a while, and probably will continue to be "cool". This may attract some younger people to the scene, but who cares as long as the band is playing for us?
JBach - jbachell@skidmore.edu
Did anyone else go to Thursday's show??? It seemed so empty!! I was just fine with that b/c everyone had a better veiw. The lights rocked. It was my first indoor show and I drove from Texas to check it out. Now, I dunno if anyone else caught it, but I could swear I heard "Run Like Hell" in there during one of those songs...can't remember. The new stuff is soundin' good. Can't wait for the summer!~(o:

Friday's show was absolutely sick. Was it just me or was Phish playing the intro to Harry Hood during the verses to Antelope? My friend Brian had the quote of the day: "That was the sound of a sick antelope!!!" Those of you out there who keep saying that Sunday night was awesome must not have been to the same show as I was that Sunday. Granted, the first set was amazing, but the second set was such a letdown, unfinished DWD, unfinished Possum, and unfinished Maze. Such a tease! I was thoroughly disappointed with the second set. Anybody else out there agree with me?
Marco E. - bjjoe@acpub.duke.edu
I wasn't there but I just wanted to say it's sad to read the boston globe review and see that a fan was arrested for kicking a police officer in the face. Chances are it wasn't a fan but it's still sad to see that those people are looked at as fans.
Justin - sack-boy@bitstream.net
holy shit!! providence kicked ass!!! sunday nights first set was among one of the best i have seen....oh kee pa was a total suprise and the 30 min. yem blew me away....theme was sweet as always...mcgrupp was a treat...bathtub>cities was great!!! and melt was good to hear again..
as for bouncing bashers....i say shut up!! obviously phish doesnt agree with you because they keep playing it....so just shut up and go with the phlow....i agree there are many other songs i would rather hear, but its really not that bad....you are lucky they dont play umm bop on a regular basis...

Dan Snyder's Review?!?!?!?!?!?!
that second set on sunday night was the best i have seen in a while. that funk thing was fucking incredible. the groove caused me to have severe back aches until tuesday because i danced so hard and trey's comment before they played cavern when he said, "we're going to play a little funk now so those of you who don't want to hear it can leave, the rest of you can stay and dance," really put it across to the crowd that if they are there for any other reason than to enjoy the music, they can leave, which are my views exactly.
i had a great time both saturday and sunday. i am so excited for the summer tour, wish the shows were a little closer together or with a few extra days to get from place to place though. i'm hoping lemon wheel will be phat. see you all there!!

i dont know what everyone's problem is but why should age matter at a phish show? i agree that even in the past couple years the scene has changed for the worse (people there to party)...but still the majority is there for the music. i think it is ridiculous to discriminate young phans. i dont care if someone is 100 or 5 as long as they're there to hear the most incredible band around--phish, and not to destroy the scene.
TIA -
I can't believe what a bitch fest this page has become. As for glow stick wars, I think they look pretty cool. It's one thing to just whip one out of nowhere, but the one I saw in Providence during 2001 seemed pretty controlled and fun. At that point in the show, it was obvious that it was happening, and I'm pretty sure that the folks involved it it were having a great time! (Trey even encouraged it at the Great Went during Harry Hood, saying "Go get some more of those things, it looks incredible!") I don't think people are trying to hit the band members, but we should try harder to keep it in the audience. The band needs to concentrate on the music, and not have to worry about dodging flying objects.
As for this clapping which seems to piss everyone off, on Sunday in Providence, I think Trey was getting off on it. It's not like he was playing some amazing, intricate lick. He was really just tinkering with 3 or 4 notes. Don't get me wrong, it sounded cool. He even did it again later in the show. I realize that in a big arena like that, the clapping can throw off the band, (It happened at Dead shows all the time), but that's the price you pay for audience participation. should we just stand there, and not get into it? I think not. It's not like we're all singing along with Carolina.
Oh, I should write a review while I'm here. The shows in providence were among the best I've seen. I had an out of body experience on Sunday. that about sums it up.
PS You won't catch me dead at Nassau, not ever.

I was at the 4/2 show at the colluseum. pretty cool first set. 25 min stash was sweet and NICU was quite nice. The second set would have been better if the cops didnt take away my friend who was bugging on shrooms. This in turn caused me to bug out.. hard! COPS SHOULD KEEP IT LOW AT THE SHOW. They should take care of security issues not petty drug issues.
Larry -
if everyone thinks the scene is getting any better, what the hell is wrong with you. if venues continue to attract 13 year olds and frats boys and their g-friends, i do not forsee myself touring after this year. a friend of mine got beat down after the 4/3 show, and thats a bit distressing. theres many other good bands playing small venues that are worth seein.

all I can say is take the second set of Saturday and the first set of Sunday and you have yourself a damn fine two sets of music....hell, throw in the super funky ending of set II on Sunday to boot.

saturday night was awesome...first set was kinda boring but the second set made up for it..boucing sucks and stop the clapping!!!!
justin -
I just have a general comment about clapping...I agree with the fact that clapping can generally throw the band onto another tempo and take away the general flow of the song/jam/vocal jam...and it doesn't sound so great on tapes. But when something happens at a show like the Friday Nassau, where clapping occurred at least twice (once in Reba and somewhere else), the energy in the crowd seems so strong, so powerful and it feels really sweet to be involved in the lights, sound and soul of the show. You know what I mean? So while it can hinder their playing, it's just a cool experiance. It's here to stay (at least in big sucky arenas).
Peace

Wow. What a run. Every show was great. The second night at Nassau was unbelievable. Only problems were people whipping glow sticks at the band and people clapping during songs. Sunday night Trey went into a sweet solo and of course everyone starts clapping, wake up people, the band doesn' need your help keeping time!
Ryan - rirish@csd.uwm.edu
Hey there everyone , Wow , I believe some of the things I am reading, calm down people or this thing is gonna blow, From what I see the band is doin some nice things, mixing it up alittle and givin a great show ( as ususal) Let's all keep that good Vibe and not FUCK things up, I hate even typin that word in this web site, we are all good people here for the music, I not preachin but I want to see Phish when Iam Iam in my 60's , and for all the young Phans, just play it cool and look at the big picture that you are part of.... Have fun everyone, see you on tour

Don't listen to Dan Snyders review. The second set on Sunday was by far the best set of the entire tour. They interwove songs to make them appear as one. The sunday night at Prov was great, great opener, 1st set, second. It was probably the best show this year. Get the tapes. Saturday night the 1s set was decent, but the second rocked. Security was sweet, you could go wherever you wanted to, even the floor if you chose. Light show on 2001 was awesome, glow stick war, etc. Encore sat night was a little surprising, but nevertheless a great treat.

After reading "Ophelia's" comments, I think there is an important point to be recognized. One of the biggest prejudices I see at shows is fans making fun of young kids (14 and under). What is wrong with enjoying Phish at a young age? I would be psyched to see my first show in 7th grade. Just because someone is yound doesn't mean that they won't be able to have fun or that they will destroy your experience. At my first show I had just turned 15 and was warmly welcomed by all. Don't turn people off from Phish because you have a problem with adolescents.
Now, to the shows: it was all about 2nd set Friday night. That sums it up right there.
take it easy, all!

36 arrests in Providence!! The crowds at the shows are becoming dangerously too young, and blatantly fucking stupid!!! It is becoming more about the buzz, and less about the best band in the world... I, for one, don't want you young teenagers polluting the reputation, (what's left), of the vibe. Stay the fuck on lollapalooza, or wherever it is you hang out.. but quit coming on to our circuit because you can get doses, or NO2, or booze... oh, by the way-- Has anyone noticed how good fishman really is?/? The funk and the setlists are unprecedented!!

providence was a great place to see a show
security was cool and both shows were great.i felt very lucky to be seeing PHISH again.this is the sort of band that you dont take for granted.and should try not to pass to much judgement on them . phish is all about the groove. if you cant feel the groove maybe its time to move on . bless the beautiful people there.and bless the band. THANX

I just heard both Nassau shows off Sugar Megs and was Impressed!! the first set of night one is a little weak in spots, but they make up for it in set 2. Overall both shows were very good, especially the second sets. I would have loved to have made either of them, and I hope somebody was able to get a video camera in! I know its illegal, but i don't care as long as I'm not doing it!! Can't wait to hear Phish again at some of the best sounding venues in the country (especially Alpine & Deer Creek), i don't know but in my opinion Amphitheatres sound ALOT BETTER than coliseums!!

Being a tour head since83,and seeing how times have evolved, reading the reviews and criticisms of Phish, reminds me of the Dead scene. Lots of people so happy for all the right reasons, and the others who always find a need to complain or criticize the band and the fans. During the Dead days if it wasn't Brent people were complaining about it was Bobby, then Jerry for forgetting lyrics. No one complains once a band breaks up,etc. Truthfully anyone who has made it to a Phish show and enjoyed it should be so grateful for having been given an enlightened enough spirit to have found it! You know what I mean. If your complaining there is obviously something wrong with your own wiring. PHISH are so amazing it takes alot of soul to be able to follow their musical direction. Alot of you's have, but to many don't. Get psyched Junior Birdmen we have many amazing voyages awaiting us, we just have to be patient, and wait for our shoes to lead us on the next journey

First set was high quality. One of the best YEM's I have ever heard. You could hear each band member locking with each other and the trampolines added a nice touch. Good Sparkle and the Split Open and Melt was a nice ending to a 75 minute set. Second set was dissappointing. Phish got lost in their Down With Disease jam and sent the crowd to the outerplanets of space. The tune lacked the intensity it usually has. A nice Yamar that led into a short Trey solo and a solid jam. Most of the songs in the remainder of the set were unfinished and it seemed like the band were eager to finish the show and end their short spring tour. Bold as Love was a nice encore, but the song really doesn't so it for me. Hopefully, Phish will approach their summer tour with lots of enthusiasm and excitement.

I went to the April 2 and April 3 (my b-day show!!) that was the most rockin show i have ever seen. The april 2 show was great. Although i was very dissapointed with the Wolfmans Bro, i mean it was the lameist one i have ever heard or seen :( But the rest of the show was great. I was sad that I missed the Providence shows but leaving NY seeing those 2 shows was fine for me.. Glowsticks, Glowsticks, Glowsticks.. some one is gonna get hurt! What about that encore on the 3rd? WOW...... :)

I hit 4/4 and 4/5. I must say that those were the two most solid and entertaining shows i've seen. I've seen probably 10 or 11 shows in my time, but none even came close to 4/4+5. The best part in my opinion had to be David Bowie.
ps: if you have tapes to these two shows, please mail me, I have 4/2 and 4/3 DAUD/1 to trade.
Todd - dank.420@juno.com
I could only make it to the 4/5 show at Providence. My friend Adyn who treats me well hooked us all up with 3rd row center tickets. The last show I saw was 12/31/97 so I was looking forward to seeing the boys again. I was standing directly in front of Mike and my friends were to the left of me. I felt this incredible groove as Trey turned slightly to his left looking right at us. He seemed to play off of our jamming. It was like a game especially when they hit the fast rthym in Sparkle, I was dancing faster and faster and they were playing faster and faster to keep up with me. Mike was definitly playing off of me, he was staring right at me. I was on a quest to here Fluffhead, I missed it on the NYE run by one day and the last one I heard was at the Clifford Ball. I was yelling at the boys to play it, Mike just looked at me and kind of nodded his head acknowledging my urge for the song. Trey kept looking at me and seeing me mouth out fluffhead and he would just look down and continue to crazily jam out. Page looked at me and didn't understand what I was saying at first then he too understood. I never felt so close to the band in my life. It was if they were totally playing for me, there was such a connection between us , they were playing off of our actions. When Trey started going off on how they were going to play for all those that came to dance , I was sure it was for my friends and I, we actually thought that after the show they would send someone for us to go backstage. Well the encoure came and I was hopeing for fluffhead. Page kind of looked at me and with his expression he said that it wasn't going to be that song I wanted but he looked at me and was like check this one out as they jammed into a great Axis Bold as Love. It was one of the best shows I experienced , for a band that has such a huge fan following I felt as if I had a musical zen with the band. I didn't get to hear fluffhead, so maybe I'm not ready for it again. But this summer you can bet I won't miss it. I must thank my friend Adyn again and especially Phish for such a totally excellent time.

Second set second night, sicko! I missed Hampton so I missed second set second night there, and that was pretty much my dream set. Anything with a piper, antelope and halleys is bound to be the bomb. Everything else was bomb. But last night in Providence. Opened with Oh kee, hello where is suzy. Dont get me wrong the YEM was super phat but what ever happened to suzy. Its been about 14 shows for me and I miss SUZY. If the boys are reading this please bring her back.

I only made it to 4/3. I thought the boys were on , especially Antelope, Piper, and Weekapaug. Glow stick war was insane. Also, Phish is here to stay, I think we all know that. For those of you who express negative comments about the music and vibe, please stay the fuck out, because it's assholes like you, if any, that are fucking up th scene anyway. Can't wait for summer.

I WENT TO BOTH PROVIDENCE SHOWS. THE FIRST ONE WAS THE WORST SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN. MABYE IF I WOULD HAVE HAD SOME EXCTACY, SOME BAD TASTES, AND A LOVE FOR THE OVERWHELMING FUNK, THEN I MAY HAVE LIKED IT. WHAT IS THE DEAL? TREY AND THE REST OF THE BOYS NEED TO STAY OFF THE X. IT'S KILLING THEIR MUSIC AND IT WILL KILL THEM. AND WITH THE REST OF YOU EXCTACY HEADS, YOU MAKE THE SCENE BAD. GROW UP!
THE LAST NIGHT WAS GOOD. HOWEVER, IT WILL PROBABLY BE THE LAST FUNKLESS SHOW (SAVE THE LAST jAM). IT'S UNFORTUNATE TO SEE THE DOWNFALL OF SUCH A GOOD BAND. ADIOS TO ALL OF YOU FOREVER.

My wife and I went out for the providence shows from utah. We had a great time and met up with alot of our friends from Toronto and California.
Personally, I thought the band was very together and were playing very well. My personal favorites were the second set first night and first set second night. Finally got my first Brother after 42 shows. I thought that they were not doing the really long spacy jams that they were getting into last year.I liked the fact that they were not doin so much of that. Looking forward to about 9 of the summer tour shows.

This isn't the place to talk about the Austin show. But to set you straight, Ross Tefteller, Austin Was a small and cozy venue. It was a nice General admission Lawn, and it is very nice to be That close to Mike and Treay, especially when you make eye contact with Mike 3 times during the first set. YES it was VERY HOT, but man it's Summer and its Texas, did you think it would be cold???? Besides, the sprayer guy (thank you sprayer guy we love you) cooled everyone off with nice cold mists of water. I think I'm going to bring one this year. And yes Austin was a weak show, Dallas blew it away totally, but it was still fun especially hood>blister in the sun>hood>free. I thought Blister in the Sun was a choice song for that HOT HOT DAY, even if they did only play two verses!! See you all on the road for another hot summer!!!
